The Town of Wakaw is excited to announce the launch of our Memorial Bench Program this summer. Memorial Benches can be purchased by families to honour past residents. As of now they will be priced at $1350 and include the cement pad,  a 6′ Huron Bench (see photo), memorial plaque and installation.

For this launch we are able to install in specific areas. While there may be other options in the future, for now we are limiting the program to Cenaiko Park,  Dr. Scott Crescent, Rec Centre, Municipal Office and the Wakaw Heritage Museum grounds.

HOW TO ORDER:

1 . Fill out the application online ( below) or in person the Town of Wakaw office.

2. A sub-committee will meet to review applications.

3. The Community Developer will get back to you with the status of your application within four weeks and if approved a $500 deposit will be required to process your bench. Install timeline will be conditional, based on weather, staff availability and ordering factors. Install will ideally occur in the Spring, Summer or Fall following your application.

4. Once installation is complete, an invoice will be sent for the full amount owing. Full Payment is expected within 60 days of install.

A reminder that January is license renewal time in Wakaw for Business and Pet Owners. Please stop in to renew before February 1.  If you have any questions about these items, contact Jody at the Town Office.

Years ago Dr. Cenaiko generously donated his former clinic building to the Town of Wakaw. With his focus on community and his wonderful legacy in mind, the best use for the space has never been determined- until now.

In partnership with the Wakaw Primary Health Care Team and the Saskatoon Health Region, the Town is excited to announce that plans are underway to develop the space into a Community Wellness Centre.

Projects and renovations will be phased. Phase one will see a Fitness Centre with equipment and weights open, which will be accessible through a low cost membership. Other potential plans include rooms for fitness and yoga classes, community groups and cultural programs. Details are still being worked out, and require community input. Please watch the Recorder, the Town Website and our Facebook Page for a chance to have your say!

The building has a variety of furnishings that are no longer required- chairs, tables, desks, shelves, etc. As a fundraiser for this Community Wellness Centre we are hosting a sale of these items by donation. All proceeds will go into purchasing equipment and funding renovations to the space ( flooring, etc.)

Someone will be onsite to monitor the garage sale over the following days:

Wednesday, November 23, Noon-6pm.
Tuesday, November 29, 10am-4pm.
Saturday, December 3, 8:30- noon.

In the meantime you have any questions call the office at 306-233-4223 or contact standish.wakaw@sasktel.net.
